A small group of children were selected to attend a one off event at Redpoint Climbing Centre in Bedminster on 21st May. The Crazy Climb sessions were a lot of fun and a great opportunity to involved in physical activity.
Our annual Fun Run was held on 18th May, raising funds for books in our new library.
On 10th May our Year 5/6 Basketball Team took part in the BANES Basketball Tournament at Wellsway School. The team came joint first in their pool and so progression came down to points difference. The last game in the pool was the decider and the a score in the final 30 secs knocked us out of the semi-finals. We came 5th overall. Well done Chew Stoke!
To celebrate International Dance Day and the Commonwealth Games we held a dance day on 5th May. Each class chose and learnt a dance from a different country from across the commonwealth and performed this dance to the school community at the end of the day.
On 1st May children in Reception, Year 2, Year 5 and 6 had yoga taster sessions as part of our partnership with BANES School Sport Partnership. We hope moving forward we can introduce this across the school to support our work on health and wellbeing at Chew Stoke Church School.
On 26th April our netball team played two games against Whitchurch A and B teams. We lost our first match 1-7, but this does not reflect the effort put in and the number of attempts to score from our team. We won our second match 5-2. Two excellent games!
On 19th April our mixed football team took part in the final Chew Valley Cluster League match against Bishop Sutton Primary School. We are very proud of the team and their performance. The final score was 0-5 to Bishop Sutton.
On the evening of 13th April 9 children had the opportunity to take part in a journalism event with Bristol Rugby. The children went pitch side before play started, met and interviewed two players, watched a game, paraded at half time and saw the presentation of the championship trophy. The children will now write a report of their experience as part of a writing competition.
On the 13th April Years 3 - 6 enjoyed Taekwondo taster sessions. The children loved learning new skills in a sport they haven't experienced before. The day continued with a mixed football team match against East Harptree Primary School as part of the Chew Valley Cluster League and we won 11-0!
On 12th April our school netball team played their first netball match against East Harptree Primary School and won 12-3. A great job!
On March 19th our KS2 Dance Club performed 'Rain' at The Forum in Bath as part of the BANES Dance Umbrella. They all worked terribly hard to perfect their routine which was flawless on the night. A huge well done to all who took part.
On March 13th Hedgehog Class performed their dance 'Good Time' at The Forum in Bath. They were amazing on stage and all the adults involved are immensely proud of them.
On the 14th March our netball team played their first netball league match against Pensford Primary School and won 5-4! Excellent result, well done team!
On March 5th our Year 5 Tag Rugby Team had a brilliant afternoon at the BANES Tag Rugby Tournament in Bath. There was great play and lots of enthusiasm shown by the whole team. They even squeezed in a friendly against Pensford Primary School before leaving which they won 4-2! Thank you also to Mr and Mrs Warren who helped coach the team throughout the tournament.
On the 27th February the school netball team wrapped up warm and took part in a netball friendly against St John's C of E Primary School in Keynsham. They played three of their teams and the results were as follows: 1-1, 6-0 and 1-1. Excellent result!
On Thursday 8th February 2018 our Reception and Year 1 children visited Chew Valley Secondary School for a FUNS Festival. They had the opportunity to take part in jumping, balancing, throwing and catching games. A great time was had by all!
On Tuesday 6th February 2018 some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils went to a football festival at Chew Valley Secondary School. A big congratulations to the boys team who came 4th and the girls team who came 1st!
On the 5th February 2018 we took part in our first School Games BANES Gymnastics Competition at Baskervilles in Bath. The team worked hard to learn a floor and vault routine, which they performed brilliantly. They then had the opportunity to explore the apparatus on offer. This is the first time we have taken part in the competition and we hope to take part again next year. Our teams came 9th and 13th overall. A great achievement.
The girls football team played their second match as part of the School Games Girls Football Cup against Saltford Primary School near Bath on February 2nd 2018. Although they lost their match 6 - 2, they remained supportive of each other and motivated until the final whistle. A HUGE well done girls!
This term the school netball team played their second School Games BANES Netball Cup match at Oldfield Park Junior School in Bath. Despite a 5 - 0 defeat the team persevered until the end and put 100% into their game. Well done!
A huge well done to the Year 5 and 6 Children who took part in the School Games BANES Athletics competition on 4th January 2018 and came 5th! Our team showed great enthusiasm and team spirit.
Congratulations to the school netball team who played their first School Games BANES Netball Cup Match against Clutton Primary School on Monday 27th November 2017 and won 6-1! A super result for their first match together.
On Saturday 25th November 2017 three of our Year 5 and 6 children qualified and took part in the Area Cross Country Finals at Ashton Park School in Bristol. They did a brilliant job of representing both our school and the BANES area when taking part in the race against up to 100 other children in each category. Rosie came 11th, Toby came 48th and Michael came 57th. A great job, we are very proud of you!
Despite the wind, rain and cold weather on Thursday 23rd November our Mixed Football Team took part in their third match as part of the School Games Chew Valley Cluster Football League. The team put 100% into a match which was played in tough conditions and with copious amounts of mud! They were defeated 7-1, but should feel very proud of their hard work.
On Wednesday 22nd November 2017 two mixed teams took part in the School Games Badminton Tournament at Wellsway Secondary School in Bath. They demonstrated great team work and for many enjoyed experiencing a new sport. Our team in Pool A came 4th and our Pool B team came 3rd. A fantastic job!
On Monday 13th November 2017 our Mixed Football Team took part in the School Games Large Schools Football Tournament at Odd Down in Bath. The team played brilliantly and made it through to the semi-final of the plate competition. A huge well done to all who took part.
On Monday 6th November 2017 our Girls Football Team took part in their first School Games football tournament at Odd Down in Bath. 11 other Primary Schools from the Bath and North East Somerset area took part and our girls made it to the semi-finals. Well done!
On Thursday 2nd November 2017 our Girls Football Team took part in their very first match as part of the School Games Girls Football Cup. Their match was against Moorlands Primary School in Bath and they won 3-0! An excellent match girls, congratulations!
On Wednesday 18th October 2017 our mixed football team played their first two School Games Chew Valley Cluster League matches. Our results were: Chew Stoke 13 Chew Magna 2 and Chew Stoke 2 Pensford 4. A huge well done to all who played!
